Ysgol Friars, a local secondary school in Bangor, recently approached us to take part in their World of Work Day.
Arranged to raise awareness of employment opportunities in the area, the skills needed and the paths to working in a specific role, the event was held in preparation for the pupils choosing their GCSE subjects. Together with a number of other employers in the local area, we were asked to put together a presentation detailing the skills we see as most important in our work (e.g. team work, problem solving, application of numbers) and the various roles available in construction.
Following our presentation, a small group of pupils were invited to take part in mock interviews with Vikki Lycett, our HR & Recruitment Officer. The pupils were asked to put together a CV and then took part in a one on one interview with Vikki. The pupils were also offered CV and interview feedback.
The response received from the school has been extremely positive and we’ll be returning to hold additional mock interviews soon.
