This week we have been selling raffle tickets for the chance to win an extra paid day off!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets for the duvet day. We raised a massive £338.00 for Ty Gobaith!
(Which our Group Managing Director, Mark Watkin Jones will match!!)
The winner of the duvet day this year was Rachel Sealey, an Assistant Quantity Surveyor based in St Asaph, well done Rachel!
On June 27th 2015 our team at Watkin Jones had a day out at the races! It was a fantastic day with great food and drink and wonderful weather! It’s safe to say we had a ball! One of our very own, Paul Christopherson, who is a Health and Safety advisor, had his horse named Captain Dunne in the running, and he did brilliantly by coming third!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the team that attended Chester races on Saturday. Here are a few photographs from the day . . . .
We would like to welcome our new construction scholarship students from Coleg Menai & Coleg Llandrillo. The students are currently completing a 6 week work experience placement as part of the 2 year scholarship programme. They will spend their 6 week placement in 3 departments of their choice, working 2 week blocks in each. This will give them a good insight into the department, how it works and the type of work that is undertaken in addition to understanding how each department fits into the overall running of the business. In addition to helping them put the theory they have learnt in college into practice.
Matthew Jones Rhodri Parry Sion Ellis Tudur Morris-Jones
We wish Matthew, Rhodri, Sion and Tudur good luck for their work experience placements.
End of scholarship review meetings have now taken place with the construction and business scholarship students who have completed their 2 year programme this month. The feedback about the scholarship programme was incredibly complimentary and has helped lots of the students to decide the career path they now wish to pursue. One student has joined the team in Bangor as a part-time receptionist, Isabella Nally was a business scholarship student. We would like to wish Isabella and all the other students all the very best for the future.
Our 2015 Summer Party has been announced!
Following the success of last year’s party at Chester Races and as a thank you for everyone’s hard work over the last 12 months, we have decided to return to the Racecourse again this year. The day promises to be fun-filled for all – we’ll be having a delicious lunch, our own private marquee and access to an all-inclusive bar.
The success of the company is only down to the hard work and commitment given by our staff. We hope this day will allow them to let their hair down and celebrate the last 12 months.
Let the countdown commence!
As part of our commitment to fundraise for Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice (our chosen Charity of the Year for 2014-2015), a team of our employees set out to arrange a fishing competition during the Christmas break. Open to all of our staff, their family, friends and our supply chain, the event proved to be a huge success!
Held between Christmas and the New Year, the day kicked off at 9am on the banks of the Menai Strait, with a total of 52 entries all battling it out to catch the longest fish. After 4 hours in the freezing cold, everyone then headed to the nearby Carreg Bran Hotel in Llanfairpwll for a well deserved drink, an award presentation and a raffle draw.
The prize table included a number of fantastic items, all kindly donated by our clients, subcontractors, suppliers and a number of local companies. Alan Hughes from Holyhead was announced as the winner and Gareth Flynn from Llanfairpwll as runner-up. Well done to both. The total raised from this event came to an impressive £2,523.80! Thank you to everyone who took part.
It’s Christmas Jumper Day at Watkin Jones today.
This activity has been organised as part of our fundraising initiatives for Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice, our chosen Charity for 2014 / 2015.
All our staff have worn their festive sweaters to work and made a donation which will go towards our yearly total for the charity. Money is still rolling in but at the last count we had raised a fantastic £105!
Today we sadly say goodbye to Peter Price after 40 years with the company.
Since he joined us in 1974, Peter has worked in all parts of the business. He was even responsible for some of Mark Watkin Jones’ early development when he was still in school!
We wish Peter the very best in the next chapter of his life.
