The Watkin Jones Scholarship Scheme is a two year programme of structured work experience, training and study, managed in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.
Aimed at students studying both construction and business courses, the scheme was launched to encourage more young people to join the construction industry. Each year the Group’s scholarship scheme offers twelve students guaranteed work experience and financial support throughout the programme. The scholarship can lead to an offer of permanent, full time employment and former students are now developing successful careers with the Group.
Students undertake work experience, lasting a total of 6 weeks, during the summer months between the first and second years of their college course. They spend one week in each of the following departments:

“The scholarship gave us the chance to really see what variety the world of Business can offer. I wanted to be a Barrister, but the scheme has opened up my eyes to other options. It will be interesting to see what direction it takes me once I have finished my studies.”
Construction learner Gareth Smith said:
“It was interesting putting our learning into practice in a real life setting. I didn’t think I’d enjoy quantity surveying but to my surprise I found it really interesting. The scheme has given me an insight into new areas I just would not have considered before.”
