Blue Plaque for St Johns Rd, Leeds!

Our development on St Johns Rd, Leeds held an open evening last week and was presented the Blue Plaque from the Leeds Civic Trust. This Civic tribute is in honour of famed Leeds architect Benedict Williamson and his building, Saint Michael’s College, which has been converted into a new 324 apartment and studio flat complex.

Mark Watkin Jones, chief executive of the Watkin Jones Group said ‘Watkin Jones is proud to have been given the opportunity to renovate and convert this important building. Throughout the development process we have taken great care to ensure that the heritage of the building shines though, and we are very pleased with the result.’

Bridge Street, Cardiff – Progress update..

Great progress is being made at Bridge Street, Cardiff!

Read the update from site below…

‘Good and steady progress has been made with all ground floor slabs now poured. This is a key milestone for the project as it gives us a base to start all the temporary staging needed to cast the floors above. All drainage excluding the final foul and storm connections have also been completed.

Progress has also been made on the vertical elements of the build and our strategy of jumping the core is proving to be the right move. We have 2 pours planned for each week on the core, the 1st being the walls and the 2nd being the stairs and landings which follow 1 floor below. This means we have permanent access up the core and only leaves 1 floor to be accessed through ladders. We are currently up to kicker on level 2. Our 1st section of mezzanine slab was also poured on Tuesday 2nd May above the ATC, we plan to pour the rest of the mezzanine slab by mid-May.’

A huge well done to all involved!

Young Enterprise North Wales Final 2017

Olivier Algieri Racing!

Last week we had the pleasure of donating funds to Olivier Algieri to continue supporting him and his passion, race car driving!

Olivier had a fantastic 2016!

With the help of Watkin Jones and his other sponsors, he competed in 22 events, scoring a total of 18 podiums. Olivier won 5 events, including the coveted Grosvener Cup and LGM Support Race!

He also went on to break a new track record at Wigan Three Sisters whilst ending the season as the MBKC Autumn Series Champion.

2017 sees Olivier take on new challenges, competing in the British Super One Championship. This series is televised and features 50 of the most talented young racing drivers in the country with previous winners such as Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and David Coulthard.

It’s going to be a big learning curve for Olivier stepping up to the very top level in his sport, but he’s excited for the challenge!

We’re on Channel 4!

Make sure you tune in to catch Watkin Jones on Channel 4’s Great British Buildings: Restoration of the Year at 8pm.
