Scholarship Scheme

In partnership with Coleg Menai, Bangor

The Coleg Menai Scholarship is a 2-year scheme designed to help students gain a solid grounding in Construction  - combining college work, leading to a National Diploma, with structured work experience and training at the Watkin Jones Group.

Our scholarship is offered to six students a year and can lead to full-time employment with the company. The Coleg Menai Students from the pilot scheme are now employed on a permanent basis, and are developing from strength to strength in their roles.

As the success of the scheme grows every year, we hope to develop more individuals and encourage young people into the industry.

The work experience with Watkin Jones takes place in the summer months between the first and second years of their college course. It lasts at least 10 weeks, with a week spent in each of the following areas of the company:

• Design Department
• Construction Site
• Technical Department
• Quantity Surveying
• Procurement Department
• Buying Department

Each student then spends a further fortnight in each of two chosen areas. Individual support and detailed training plans are provided and Watkin Jones provides financial support throughout the two years (£500 throughout the academic year, and 6 weeks of minimum wage payment during the work experience).
